Chris Hewitt travelled to South Africa’s Eastern Cape with 10 amateur boxers from the Islington Boxing Club to make a film about their journey. They were on their way to an old school boxing match against the fighters at the Zama boxing gym, deep in the heart of the Kwanobuhle township.

Led by a small group of coaches and mentors the trip was as much about looking inside as out.

Many of the boxers had never been abroad; some had never left London. One was homeless, living on mattress at the gym.

Chris’s poetic filmmaking weaves an evocative and intoxicating spell as we follow their journey and understand what it takes to compete.
